Clearinghouse maintains an excellent website that lists most of
the available public and private agencies.
- The American Academy of
Adoption Attorneys lists all lawyers who "practice, or have
otherwise distinguished themselves in the field of adoption law."

Strickler, Sachitano & Hatfield P.A. licensed in Maryland and the District of Columbia who focuses her practice on family law and adoption. She handles domestic, step-parent and same-sex adoptions as well as assists clients with international adoption matters.
You will need a lawyer at some point during the adoption process, if only to handle the legal adoption. Because you should be aware of the state's current rules and regulations surrounding adoption, it's highly advisable that you work with an attorney from the start.
